STRANGE COMPANIONS Field Guide + Oracle Deck Complete Set
Oracle Deck + Field Guide · Edition of 50
A field guide and artist-illustrated oracle for uncertain times.
Strange Companions is a world of Dreadlings, Orders, Conditions and Unresolved States created to give form and language to the strange, contradictory and often difficult conditions of being alive.
The Dreadlings are companions for experiences like grief, change, exhaustion, memory, overwhelm and indecision. The Orders describe how they move through the world. Conditions reveal the pressures surrounding an experience. Unresolved States enter where meaning becomes less cooperative.
Together, the Oracle Deck and Field Guide offer two ways into that world: one through encounter and intuition, the other through story, observation and deeper interpretation.
This special edition brings both together as they were conceived: one interconnected work, limited to 50 sets.
THE ORACLE DECK
STRANGE COMPANIONS: An Oracle Deck for Uncertain Times is a 42-card artist oracle designed for observation rather than prediction.
A reading might reveal what is present, what is shaping it, what is interfering, or where something remains difficult to name.
The deck includes:
4 Orders
Keepers · Scryers · Wanderers · Wards
22 Dreadlings
Individual companions formed around particular tensions, behaviours and ways of moving through uncertainty.
10 Conditions
The social, cultural, environmental and internal forces acting on an experience.
6 Unresolved States
Interruptions that introduce ambiguity, distortion, suspension and complication.
Use the cards for individual readings, shared conversations, daily observations or simply as a different way of looking at whatever is currently happening.
Sometimes the pattern is obvious.
Sometimes it gets worse before it gets interesting.
THE FIELD GUIDE
STRANGE COMPANIONS: A Field Guide to Living With Uncertainty opens the world further.
Part field guide, part absurdist taxonomy, it gathers the Dreadlings and the circumstances surrounding them through recorded origins, observations, field notes, histories and ways of reading the relationships between the cards.
The book can be read from beginning to end, opened at random, followed through a particular Dreadling, or used alongside the deck as a deeper companion to a reading.
It gives language and form to things that are often easier to recognise once they have somewhere to stand.
THE COMPLETE SET
The deck can be encountered intuitively. The Field Guide provides the deeper architecture behind it.
Together, they form the fullest expression of Strange Companions: a way of noticing patterns, pressures, contradictions and companions while living through a world that remains persistently uncertain.
Whatever this is, at least we have company.
