Unresolved States · Open Edition Prints
24 × 40 in · Xerox print
The Unresolved States are the interruptions within Strange Companions: moments where interpretation slips, stalls, distorts or refuses to settle into anything especially useful.
Each work is built from Bramble Lee Pryde’s original visual language for Strange Companions. More than 350 paintings, ink works, drawings, marks and collaged fragments were created during the development of the project, then repeatedly combined, altered and reorganized across the Oracle Deck, Field Guide and exhibition. The lettering throughout the work comes from typefaces hand-created by the artist specifically for the project.
Originally developed at the scale of the 42-card Oracle Deck, the six Unresolved States were enlarged for Strange Companions: Still Here into oversized Xerox works placed among the Conditions throughout the gallery.
At this scale, they stop behaving like cards and start behaving like interruptions.
Fragments enlarge. Marks become bodily. Empty space becomes louder. What was once small enough to hold in your hand now breaks the rhythm of the wall and complicates whatever sits beside it.
The open editions retain the same deliberately low-brow material logic as the exhibition works: 24 × 40 inches, printed on standard bond paper by Xerox.
Hundreds of hand-made marks. Several years of visual language. One very large photocopy with unresolved intentions. They are blunt, unprecious, and they also look extremely good framed.
