ED&I Commons Space & mural
Transalta commissioned Bramble to create and curate a Commons Space that carved out their mission to for creating equitable and inclusive spaces for underrepresented identities. Pryde’s proposal was a three panelled mural to carve out a space for people to come relax and interact with a “speaker’s corner” style monolith (create in collaboration with Cory Nespor), view a monthly art show, with curation focused on representing artists from underrepresented identities. The panelled mural will be the perimeter of the space, providing a backdrop for town halls, content creation and media opportunities.
ARTIST STATeMENT
It was integral to create an ambient and welcoming space, through the use of a specific soft dreamy palette that embodies a gentle area, that is paradoxical to historical corporate spaces. The colours are a soft resistance to gender assigned tropes and presumption, while welcoming all people into the space to consider the visceral reaction and perception they have when viewed.
